In order to establish the fundament of theology, fundamental theology discusses the conditions of the constitution of faith and the possibility of its theoretical comprehension. Thus its significance for Protestant theology is to describe the task and the essence of theology. In doing so, it integrates the diverse theological disciplines by guiding them along a task that they all share.
