Johann Georg Hamann sah in der Schriftwerdung des Wortes Gottes die äußerste Konsequenz seiner Fleischwerdung. Als Gestalt der Inkarnation tragen auch die biblischen Texte das Sterben Christi an ihrem Leibe. Den Vorgang der Verschriftung, durch welchen der Text Autonomie gegenüber dem Autor gewinnt, hat Roland Barthes als "Tod des Autors" bezeichnet. Schrifttheologisch läßt sich dieser Gedanke mit der neuzeitlichen Rede vom Tode Gottes verbinden. Vom Tod des Autors ist nochmals der Tod des Textes zu unterscheiden. Dieser tritt ein, wenn die Exegese den Tod des Autors nicht akzeptieren will. Wo es dagegen - im Akt des Lesens - zu einem neuen Verstehen biblischer Texte kommt, ereignet sich gewissermaßen ihre Auferstehung bzw. Auferweckung. Johann Georg Hamann saw the written word ofGod as the ultimate consequence of his incarnation. The biblical texts as well also carry the death of Christ in their essence as a figure of incarnation. Roland Barthes called the process of putting these texts into writing, by which the text gains autonomy in relation to the author, the "death of the author". In terms of the theology of the Holy Scriptures, this idea can be connected to the way people have been talking about the death of God in the modern age. One must however distinguish between the death of the author and the death of the text. This occurs when exegesis does not want to accept the death of the author. When however during reading there is a new understanding of biblical texts, this means to a certain extent their resurrection.
