Richard Rothe (1799-1867) does not belong to the well-known protestant theologians, even if his work is of increasing importance. The main intention of his theological and practical work was to reconcile Christianity and modern culture. The following contribution gives an introduction in Rothe´s life and main ideas. The main idea is to show, thatRothe´s theological reflections on the relationship of Christianity and culture have the function to defuse a cognitive tension based on Rothe´s biographical experiences.
