Starting from the observation that the current religious situation is characterized by pluralistic and polytheistic tendencies, the article asks back in time of the Ancient Orient and biblical traditions: how did the Biblical tradition receive and transform the diverse images of God in the Ancient Orient? The article argues on the basis of the ancient Near Eastern and biblical flood traditions, that the Old Testament integrated characteristics of ancient Near Eastern gods into the image of the one God YHWH. Religious History and Biblical Theology work open the eyes for current religious processes.
