Maaser, Wolfgang
Diakonie

This article illustrates the historical stages and the emergence of problems in the relationship between Church and diaconia, which have arisen from the social economy of the 1990s in particular. The accompanying standardization and economisation of social services exacerbates the question concerning the protestant proprium. Ethical perspectives founded on biblical baselines are developed through dogmatic reflection and with the help of theological anthropology. They understand church-bound diaconia as a justice-oriented non-profit-actor that introduces its specific convictions and beliefs on successful life into civil society in a discourse- and criticism-oriented way. In this way, diaconia intervenes in the definition of the common good, and distinguishes its proprium through self-engagement with others.
