Paul Benjamin Auster (*1947) is an American author and producer. Until 1970 Auster studied English and literature at the Columbia University. From 1971 until 1974 he lived in France, where he worked as a translator. Afterwards he accepted a teaching position at Columbia University, but continued to translate books from French into English. Auster's first novel, the detective story Squeeze Play, was published under his pseudonym "Paul Benjamin". His novel Moon Palace was published in 1989.
