Qaisra Shahraz (*1958) was born in Pakistan, but came to England with her parents at the age of ten. Her literary career began as a writer for newspapers and magazines. Shahraz has written numerous short stories and in 2001 her first novel was published. Due to her personal experience one crucial theme in Shahraz' work is the clash of cultures. Furthermore, Shahraz takes a special interest in the lives of young women. This can be seen in her famous short story "A Pair of Jeans" (1988) and this is also the reason why her work is often regarded as slightly feminist.
