What The Elders Used To Say
Namibian Perspectives on the Last Decade of German Colonial Rule
In October 1903 a dispute over a goat in the remote southern town of Warmbad set off a train of events that would eventually uproot communities across Namibia and culminate with the near destruction of a people. The story of the Herero and Nama wars against German colonial rule is well known. What is not well known, however, is how these fateful wars were viewed or experienced by the thousands of Namiibians who lived and died in this period.
