Practical theology refers to dogmatic theology as an academic-theological dialogue partner and relates to its basic questions and insights involving all options of its own discipline. Yet the mutual perception and exchange of both disciplines remains occasional. In order to broaden the horizon for mutual meaningful theological interpretation, it is useful to sketch the profile of a practical theology in a dogmatic perspective. This profile is characterized by the basic question of how the dimension of God's reality is or can be brought up amidst individual religious faith life and communication. This orientation of the discipline can illustrate that practical and dogmatic theology are both confronted with the common task of interpreting lived religion. To both disciplines applies: They can become relevant for a meaningful conduct of life - as free self-orientation both from God's reality and to his promise of life- only if the message and its interpretations within the light of the gospel prove successful both individually and commonly.
