The first part of the essay presents an outline of H. W. Wolff's "Anthropology of the Old Testament" (1973/2010) in addressing critical inquiries. In the second part, perspectives of a new approach are presented in view of the three step: specific living conditions, literary contexts, anthropological constants. An "Anthropology of the Old Testament" should cover these aspects judiciously and correlate them in the sense of an integrative approach. "Integrative approach" means on the one hand that anthropological ultimate justifications of a metaphysical-speculative origin are to be avoided as well as the biases of a too narrow anthropology. It means on the other hand to adhere to the multidimensionality of the image/s of humanity of the Old Testament leaving thereby room for particularities (specific living conditions, literary contexts) as well as for universal characteristics (anthropological constants).
