In the textbooks of pastoral care and counseling the perspective of deficiencies of deaf people is still implied. The practice of pastoral work with them, however, leads to insights in important dynamics of human communication to be learned in the work with the deaf. As in these experiences the interconnectedness of the roles of the counselor, translator, liturgist and social worker will be found, this also provides a challenge for the theory of pastoral counseling.
