Neu Der Pfarrer/die Pfarrerin als Schlüsselfigur: Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten

The 5th survey on church membership of the EKD (KMU V) considers church membership as social practice characterized by the communication of attendees. E. g., church affiliation directly depends on the frequency of interaction with the pastor; yet not only personal contact but also the perception of the pastor from a distance has significant binding effects. Thus the public role of the pastor in church and occasional services take center stage. Because the church members as self-confident agents expect higher standards of the quality of church services, professionalism and theological competence are basic requirements for church activities. Pastors thus prove as key figures of the church. The final part of the essay discusses the implications for the self-perception of the protestant church as a church based on the priesthood of all believers.
