The article provides a retrospective summary of the scientific yield of the anniversary year announced to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the death of Philipp Jakob Spener (1635 - 1705). Starting with Spener's first anniversary year in 1835, which was brought about by the two-volume Spener biography written by Wilhelm Hoßbach, a close friend of Schleiermacher, the article shows that die image perceived of Spener has changed several times since this time. The main part of the article deals with a report about die international symposium arranged by the theological faculty of the Humboldt University of Berlin in 2005 and with the presentations held at this symposium which are now available in printed form. In a second part the article deals with the literary fruit of the 2005 Spener anniversary in Alsatia, the land in which Spener was born and which is the traditional location of Spener's anniversaries. Another part of die article deals with die exhibition organized by the Francke Foundations in Halle in commemoration of Spener, which is mainly of art-historical value. The final part of the article lists other scientific papers on Spener published in 2005.
