Zeitschriftenartikel

In the light of the growing number of children and young people of immigrant status, German as a second language and multilingu-alism are becoming major topics and a new challenge for religious education. The paper draws attention to the background of the discussion - multi-lingualism as well as the relationship between linguistic competencies and professional learning - and notes that religious pedagogy has not yet developed its own concept of language-sensitive religious instruction. The paper then presents aspects that must be considered for such an approach. In particular, the relationship between language and denominational affiliation as well as religion more generally is taken into consideration. The paper concludes with a proposal for language-sensitive religious instruction that advocates placing language and multilingualism in a broader context.
