The article shows, on the basis of the diaconia of the 19th century, to what extent tasks of church evangelization were integrated into the professional work of the Inner Mission and how special liturgical forms were developed. Using an exemplary field of activity - namely that of the "evangelical maiden associations" (Jungfrauenvereine) - it is shown in concrete terms how the Inner Mission attempted to reintroduce those who had long been estranged from the church to Christianity. Finally, reflections are made on how such a history of diakonia can be integrated into church history.
