Die dreifache Begründung einer christlichen Umweltethik
Zeitschriftenartikel

This article revises and elaborates three different approaches to justify environmental ethics: First, the most common approach, which refers to the theology of creation, second, an approach given by the theology of eschatology and, finally, an ecclesiological approach, which could shape current debates on sustainability. Before explaining in which way these three approaches can be used for contemporary Christian environmental ethics, the article points out that it is actually important to reveal justifications for environmental ethics. Furthermore, the problem of anthropocentrism for Christian and other traditional theories of ethics are discussed. Drawing on three different kinds of anthropocentrism the article argues that Christian ethics, just as any other ethical concept, is challenged by the problem of epistemic and moral anthropocentrism and by the logical issue that human beings cannot attribute moral standings to animals and other beings.
