Zu den Besonderheiten der Sonderschulgeschichtsschreibung gehört, dass die Geschichte der Sonderschule ausschließlich von der Sonderpädagogik und auf die Hilfsschule zentriert geschrieben wird. Auf der Grundlage einflussreicher Geschichtsdarstellungen werden Kontinuitäten im Wandel der sonderpädagogischen Historiographie und ihre Behauptung der Sonderschule als Nothilfe herausgearbeitet.
One of the peculiarities of the historiography of the special school is that the history of that school type is written exclusively from the perspective of special pedagogics and that it focuses solely on the school for the mentally retarded (Hilfsschule). On the basis of influential historical outlines, continuities in the progress of the historiography of special pedagogics are revealed and its persistent definition of the special school as an emergency solution is pointed out.
