The article seeks to clarify the relationship between pastoral care and other forms of care by exploring the potential of the discourse on the soul. The idea of a soul proves especially helpful in mapping the human ability to experience difference of one's own body. The functionality of the concept of the soul lies in the fact that on the one hand, it underlines the complexity of human experience, but on the other hand, it also has a religious-metaphorical surplus of meaning that refers to transcendence. At the same time, this enables us to differentiate care for the soul from other forms of care.
