Theological ethics can only expect to make a useful contribution to the theory of pastoral care, if it is willing to drop its widely accepted claim to provide ethical normativity. Instead, theological ethics is to unearth the meaning of the liberating process of the gospel and, consequently, its impact on the actualisation of individual life.
