Ehe als Sakrament? Impulse aus der katholischen Liturgie
Zeitschriftenartikel

Sacrament or blessing? In the past, the pathway of an ecumenically informed discourse about marriage as sacrament was thorny. On first sight, the positions of the Catholic Church and of the Protestant Churches seem still to oppose each other irreconcilably. The orientation guide of the EKD explicitly refuses to speak of marriage in sacramental terms. In past decades, Catholic sacramental theology has discovered liturgy as its source; this gives a new impetus to the discussion about the essence of sacraments. It also brings about a modified accentuation of marriage theology: The Festive Marriage Blessing that is performed after the consensus declaration of the couple becomes the starting point of a discourse about marriage as sacrament that is also worth considering in Protestant theology.
