The relation between the church and its welfare organisations is increasingly at the centre of attention. Because of current socioeconomic challenges, it is necessary to reflect this relation from dogmatic, biblical, socio-ethical and church judicial perspective. Specifically, questions with regard to corporate governance of church based welfare organisations have to be dealt with as theologically responsible and church-related decisions. Since diaconal organisations belong to the church, the issue of organizational development is therefore a question of comprehensible theological criteria, which pay tribute to the overall responsibility and credibility of the Protestant Church in society. In this regard, the relation between professionalism and value-based orientation as well as die relation between social advocacy and social services should be evaluated anew. A programmatic disjunction between management on one side and religious, individual oriented dimensions on the other side is to be seen as highly critical.
