Against the background of the differences between the church and diaconal systems, the personal observations outlined here show the differing leadership challenges and draw attention to the associated demands on leaders. However, they also illustrate the commonalities that exist in the face of societal megatrends and a declining number of church members, and point to perspectives for fruitful cooperation on the ground.
