"Leben jenseits des Menschen"? Zur Kritik des Posthumanismus aus Sicht evangelischer Theologie und Ethik
Zeitschriftenartikel

For scientific and ethical reasons, the unquestioned perception ofhumans as exeptional species has faltered in the modern age. Against this background, perspectives denouncing an emphatic valuation of human existence have become stronger over a prolonged period. These perspectives have found terminological expression in the nomenclature of "posthumanism." It can be differentiated into two basic types: "Technological posthumanism" expects the replacement of human beings by machines due to technological development; "critical posthumanism" seeks the abolition of humanity as a central concept of human's understanding of reality. However, the former succumbs to the pitfalls of technicist reductionism, whereas the latter becomes enmeshed within a performative contradiction. For Christian theology, the engagement with post humanist paradigms can be a source of productive irritation. In their wholesale repudiation of the special role of humans, however, they take it too far.
