Vor dem Hintergrund einer zunehmend stärker standardisierten Methodisierung von wissenschaftlicher Forschung wird die Frage diskutiert, ob und inwieweit sich theoretische Forschung - auch und gerade in der Erziehungswissenschaft - auch methodisch ausweisen und entfalten lässt; mithilfe der doppelten Unterscheidung von drei Ebenen der Theorieforschung (Begriffs-, Argumentations- und Systematizitätsforschung) und drei Formen der Textualität (Intra-, Inter- und Kontextualität) wird versucht, bereits etablierte Verfahren der theoretischen Forschung zu systematisieren und so in einen Zusammenhang zu bringen, dass ein gegenstandsbezogener Zugriff auf Theorieforschung möglich und eine zumeist positionale Verortung in epistemologischen Schulen und (nicht miteinander kompatiblen) Methodologien zunehmend weniger nötig wird.
In the context of an increasingly standardized methodization of scientific research, the question is discussed whether and to what extent theoretical research - also and especially in educational research - can also be methodically identified and developed; with the help of the distinction between three levels of theoretical research (conceptual, argumentative and systematic research) and three forms of textuality (intra-, inter and contextuality), an attempt is made to systemalize already establlshed procedures of theoretical research and to bring them into a context in such a way that a subject-related access to theoretical research is possible and a mostly positional location in epistemological schools and (incompatible) methodologies is increasingly lass necessary.
