Mind uploading als Seele 4.0? Trauerkultur in Zeiten der Digitalisierung
Zeitschriftenartikel

How will digitalisation change the culture of mourning? Both expectations and fears accompany the current debate on digitalisation. This applies in particular to services that have a direct impact on human nature including the vision of mind uploading, which can be placed in the broad field of transhumanism. Mind uploading assumes that the human mind can be uploaded and thus live on forever in virtual space. From a theological point of view the question arises whether mind uploading may achieve something like the immortality of the soul. Beyond ethical reflections, it is worthwhile to take a pastoral view. At present there are already first platforms that connect to the vision of mind uploading and thus represent an impulse for digital mourning culture. May these platforms complement mourning processes in a healing way and thus create a new sociality or does their promise of eternal life rather lead to social isolation?
