Moralische und sittliche Orientierung eine metaethische Skizze
Zeitschriftenartikel

Conventional wisdom states that ethics are concerned with morality and morality alone. This notion is articulated in judgements on whether or not an action is good or a verdict is fair, or that certain rights and duties exist. This essay argues that such an understanding of ethics falls short. Moral orientation has its foundation in another kind of practical orientation which is called ethical orientation. The essay analyses this orientation`s structure and presents the thesis of a pre-eminence of ethical over moral orientation. According to this view, theological ethics are not primarily concerned with the moral but rather the ethical orientation of Christians. In the light of the doctrine of justification by faith, Protestant ethics in particular must insist on the primacy of ethical versus moral orientation.
