Neu Neuere Theologie in Ostasien
Zeitschriftenartikel

The paper surveys theological ideas and literature in Japan, Korea, and China within roughly the last twenty years and tries to find a thread of theological development. Theology in Japan is in some regards emancipating from the untiring effort to recapitulate and reinterpret western theology and has started to find new fields of contextual involvement. Kuribayashi Teruo with his 'Theology of the Crown of Thorns' and 'Theology of Japanese folk tales' has introduced a new paradigm of authentic Japanese theology, and theologians like Kaneko Keiji, Kanda Kenji, and Sekine Seizo have discovered new fields of social ethics. The Takizawa research as well has reached a new stage by the creation of the Takizawa Katsumi Association in 1992 and its scholarly bulletin. As for Korea, Minjung Theology is now entering the third generation, reflecting its own history, regaining political analysis and seeking dialogue with other Korean religions. One major issue for Chinese theology is the religion-state-relationship and besides that a diversification of issues which have been on the agenda of the ecumenical movement. In general the theological process in East Asia reflects the internationalization of theological communication and more than ever contributes to issues like a theology of religions, interdisciplinary cooperation, and the reformulation of re-imports like the eastern-nurtured esoteric thinking of Ken Wilber and Jean Gebser.
