Neu Neutestamentliche Wissenschaft und Theologische Ethik
Zeitschriftenartikel

The article approaches the question of the relevance of the New Testament for theological ethics from the perspective of the New Testament, with two main emphases. First, it discusses the structural question of the character and relevance of human action in New Testament concepts of Christian life. Secondly, addressing the question of how the New Testament can inspire theological ethics in terms of content, a model for the analysis of New Testament ethics is outlined. Not only should this model enable a historically adequate understanding of New Testament ethical conceptions, but it also paves the way for dialogue with systematic theology. Rather than simply asking about the applicability of the written results of ethical reflection, it is essential to consider the processes of reception of ancient ethical traditions in concrete social circumstances - and, potentially, the transformation of those traditions as they interact with the Christian belief system.
