New publications on Friedrich Nietzsche today offer two broad lines of interpretation. The first is by theologians who see hermeneutic parallels between Nietzsche's thought and New Testament thought, and even Nietzsche as an imitator of Jesus. The second is current philosophy's attempt to protect Nietzsche from being captured by the theologians. Both lines of interpretation show not only that there have been >confessors< and >hagiographers< of Njetzsche in his lifetime already but also that even today no one is safe from falling prey to his or her own convictions. As Nietzsche knew, neither scholarship nor critical self-questioning can protect from errors. This is as true of interpreters who wish to christianize Nietzsche as it is true of faithful Nietzschean interpretations.
