This text is a critical study of the "New Perspective", which can be traced back mainly to E.P. Sanders and which has gained increasing acceptance among New Testament scholars in the past three decades as an interpretation of Paul. Its theory that the way in which Luther and other Reformers understood Paul was based on fundamental misunderstandings and misinterpretations is analyzed by the author with regard to its exegetical capacity and the understanding of Luther which it assumes and proven to be deficient and misleading in both respects. Even if Paul was certainly "no Luther before Luther" (Räisänen), there is a fundamental concurrence between the two of them.
