Dogmatics lays open the "valid doctrine" of a denominational church and at the same time reflects the significance and truth of the Christian faith as such. It fulfills a function for the Church yet also has its responsibilities within the "scholarly community" and the public realm. This contribution compares five recent conceptual designs by German theologians - three by Protestants (H.-M. Barth, Lange, Wenz) and two by Catholics (Pesch, Ruhstorfer) - regarding their position in this field of tension. Among other issues the author examines the self-conception of the respective disciplines as well as the thematization of the denominational perspective and the cultural context. Every concept reflects explicitly the structural conditions of current dogmatic work, yielding fundamental similarities but also differences, which cannot be allocated to a specific denomination, however.
