The prophetic books of the Old Testament are more than, and different from, mere documents of proclamation of the prophetic characters behind them. They do not only contain prophecies, but also interpretations of the historical impact of these prophecies. This is the special quality of Old Testament prophecy. It is only in the light of this interpretive dynamics that one can understand the reception of prophecy in Qumran and the New Testament adequately.
