Reinkarnationsvorstellungen als Gegenstand von Religionswissenschaft und Theologie
Zeitschriftenartikel

An attempt is made here to summarize the most problematic issues in academic discourse about the topic Reincarnation. Much of what follows concentrates on questions of method, since research so far has shown that some essential clarification is necessary now. Three case studies, 'Indigenous Religion', Hinduism, and alternative Religions in the West, show the immense variety of views on Reincarnation. It becomes clear that such views are so different as to make any inclusion under the topic Reincarnation only of limited heuristic value. This result has direct consequences for theological debate about views of Reincarnation. Only such theological discourses are recommended as far as method which have a critical look at concrete programmes, create close references to the basic system (including socio-religious contexts), and are orientated in a dialogue form without making the question of truth relative.
