This essay discusses the effects of public procedures of recognition on the collective self-understanding of religious communities. For this purpose it studies the example of the British Druid Network, which was approved as a religious charity by the Charity Commission for England and Wales some years ago. From a perspective of organisational sociology, the author reconstructs the processes of self-determination, canonisation and adjustment exemplarily and concludes with some systematic considerations on the relationship between religious community and organisation.
