Sensuality and the Desire for God: Mystical Experiences between Private Home and Concert Hall. The article presents a plurality of forms of protestant mysticism, including Martin Luther, J.S. Bach's music and its reception, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The dynamics between spiritualising the senses and desensualising the spirit, from existential connection with the world to retreating from the world, are outlined.
