As far as the concept of the soul is concerned, Protestant theology seems to be on the verge of a process of self-correction: A concept that - until recently - was viewed critically has once again become a debatable proposition. This insight can also lead systematically-theologically to a new probing of the old tradition. This shows that the soul is by no means originally fixed on a problematic dualism or on outdated models of thought. Rather, the soul stands in principle for an embodied vitality that is open to dimensions of transcendence. This is precisely what can be formulated with the help of image-theoretical insights that seem attractive today.
