This cross-sectional survey evaluates the mental and physical health, the work-related behaviour and experience patterns, and the spiritual resources of pastors of the free evangelical churches in Germany. Only 10 % of pastors presented a healthy behaviour and experience pattern, but 37 % were at risk for burnout. Professional ambition and resistance to stress were reduced. Only one religious scale had a small but significant impact on mental health. Pastors need to learn appropriate stress management and effective coping strategies.
