Neu Theologie und Religionswissenschaft eine Erinnerung an Emil Schürer und Adolf von Harnack
Zeitschriftenartikel

This article deals with the relationship between Theology and Religious Studies. From the perspective of New Testament scholarship, Theology distinguishes itself from Religious Studies insofar as it not only describes historically, or gives historical context to the ideas of Early Christianity (though it obviously has to do this work), but it is also concerned with the essential demands of the New Testament and in this way does Theology. In Schürer's opinion, Religious Studies is based on the doctrine of the Incarnation, Religious Studies researches the historical form, Theology concentrates on the new that finds expression in this form. In Harnack's view, finally, Religious Studies raises the question about the purity and force of religious phenomena, whereas Theology's duty is to open these up for the present.
