There will be over the next years a big lack of pastors in German Protestant churches. Besides a general development - the retirement of baby-boomers - some pecularities of theological studies seem to be responsible, too. In addition, social change and related challenges have to be noticed. Proposals for reforming the study of theology in the USA and Switzerland are opening up new perspectives. They are mediating between historically established theory and practice relevant for every-day life.
