Theological ethics analyses the preconditions, premises, aims and consequences of human action from the perspective of the relationship of human beings and the world towards God. Yet also dogmatic theology discusses the human being as subject of actions, such as in the realms of hamartiology, law, justification, sanctification and ecclesiology. A rigorous theory of action realizes that the phenomenon of self-contingent action cannot be comprehensively described but asks for an additional level that is addressed in dogmatic theology. The main topic of theology is a soteriological interpretation of reality. It is argued that this needs to be done twice. Thus dogmatics and ethics are closely interrelated but have nevertheless their own independent tasks.
