The complexity anti gravity of bioethics cause divisions that threaten the unity of churches and religious communities. This gives rise to the following questions: Is there way to tolerate conflicting convictions and actions without sanctioning them? Is it possible to achieve respectful tolerance in die case of preimplantation diagnosis, in die case of the removal of a stomach tube that is sustaining die life of a terminally ill patient, or in the case of evaluating the biological aspects of homosexual orientation? Or are these cases which call for n status confessionis, a clear taking of sides with no room for compromise?
