Following the First World War, J. C. B. Mohr (Paul Siebeck)'s publishing programme focused on the humanistic fields of law, political science, protestant theology and religious studies, as well as philosophy and history. Publisher Paul Siebeck had already tried to take the shift in the study of the history of ideas into account after 1918 by opening the theological publishing branch to schools of thought that were not or no longer felt bound to theological liberalism. His sons Oskar and Werner Siebeck pushed the pluralisation of the theological publishing programme after 1920. The sought-for diversity was reflected quintessentially in the magazine "Zeitschrift für Theologie und Kirche", which was revived in 1920, and in the second edition of the encyclopedia "Die Religion in Geschichte und Gegenwart". The publishing house particularly supported those theological forces that tried to overcome the choice between the crisis-ridden traditional historicism and the "anti-historistical revolution" after World War I.
