The gospels show Jesus as the Messiah with divine power, who physically touches other people with great naturalness. Most of these touches are reported in connection with healing, but there is also evidence of touching in a "private" context. The Jewish understanding of the body as part of God's creation finds its expression in Jesus' attention to the physical needs of human beings.
