Neu Von der Erweckung zum konfessionellen Luthertum zum 200. Geburtstag von Missionsinspektor Johann Christian Wallmann
Zeitschriftenartikel

Historians and church historians alike have completely forgotten the enormous enthusiasm for mission during the 19th century, an enthusiasm which captured all of German society and brought forth hundreds of mission societies in German Protestant churches. Remembering this phenomenon, the article deals with a man who was a prominent and efficient part of this movement: Johann Christian Wallmann, leader of the Rhenish and the Berlin mission in the middle of the 19th century. Wallman began as a rationalistic theologian and went through a long phase of revivalism before ending up in Lutheran confessionalism, which however had an ecumenical touch, recognizing as it did the Roman-Catholic mission as exemplary.
