The author discusses, whether the 19th century modern diakonia actually was based on a false interpretation of the Bible. Which traditions other than the biblical ones seem to be at work in the modern understanding of diakonia, and in which sense are the biblical texts relevant? What was historically false from an exegetical standpoint can nevertheless be valued as a creative misunderstanding and a worthy adaption to modern times of love for one's neighbor.
