Neu Wie predigen wir dem "akademischen" Menschen? Einsichten und bleibende Anfragen der liberalen Theologie
Zeitschriftenartikel

The question of how to preach to the 'academic individual' focuses on a very specific audience of the sermon: the academic upper middle-class. Which religious and practical attitudes characterize this target group? Which points of contact thus emerge for the sermon? To answer this question, two different theological concepts of liberal theology are compared to each other: First the empirically founded perspective of advocates of the so-called modern sermon, esp. Friedrich Niebergall, and second the integration of the homiletic question into a concept of modernity based on Protestant theory, as promoted by Heinrich Bassermann. The first part reconstructs how the academically educated individual is described in these concepts, the second delineates the consequences for the intention and process of preaching. Finally the insights and differences are applied to present constellations.
