Neu Religion als Ort globaler Gerechtigkeit
Zeitschriftenaufsatz

In this paper, it is argued that religious institutions are important agents of global justice. Currently, supranational organizations and states are unable to meet their responsibility for global justice due to the increasing national self-interest of many states. The global civil society as such is not really an agent, but more an umbrella term for many more or less well-organized agents. For this reason, it seems trite to ascribe responsibility for global justice to it. Religious institutions, especially those of the world religions, on the other hand, are well-organized on a global scale. Moreover, they often have grass-root elements and are capable to reach many people worldwide, who seldom are addressed by academic discourse. At the same time, religious institutions are internally divided into more and less progressive parts. From the point of view of justice, the paper argues, it is crucial to strengthen the more progressive parts in order to facilitate global justice in a sustainable manner.
