After finishing their university studies theology students in Germany are prepared for the pastorate in a roughly two-year training program. The most time is spent in a local church under the mentorate of the pastor, but also training courses are provided by instructors in the regional church. The author compares the views of mentors, mentees and the course instructors, expressed in interviews, about what is a good mentor. Differences between these groups show where future efforts for improvement of quality should be sought.
