"Human Enhancement" has been the subject of an interdisciplinary discourse for over 10 years. However, the important question concerning the fundamental possibilities of enhancement-techniques remains a desideratum: What are the chances and Iimits given by human nature? In this article, said question is discussed by drawing on the anthropology of Friedrich Schleiermacher. Different forms of physical, neuro and moral Enhancement can be productively related to his description: referring to dietetics, prosthetics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and cognitive science (NBIC). It is shown that there may be actual enhancements of the "exterior" side of human action. However, the limits of enhancement techniques are sharply delineated.
