Richard Brautigan (1935-1984) was an American writer who is often regarded as a major representative of the 1960's and 70's West Coast Counterculture. Brautigan began publishing some of his writings in magazines in the 1950's until he gained fame with his novels and poetry collections in the 1960's. In 1984, Brautigan killed himself after success left him. Brautigan is known for a certain narrative technique. He makes use of it in the short story "I was trying to describe you to someone".
